A Christian's Guide to Praying for the Muslim World F.J. Farrokh's "Jailbreak" issues a strong call to Christians to pray with fresh intensity on behalf of the men, women, and children inhabiting the Muslim world. Farrokh, a man of Iranian descent who was raised Muslim, evaluates with fresh boldness the spiritual and social challenges faced by many of the world's 1.3 billion Muslims. The book moves quickly and is extremely readable, yet is not short on hard facts, up-to-date information, and an "insider's description" of some aspects of Islam.
A number of years ago I heard this author speak publicly. He described his involvement in the "reconciliation movement" in which he and other Christians humbled themselves to Muslims and asked forgiveness for the sins committed by Christians during the Crusades. Anyone meeting F.J. Farrokh will sense immediately that (despite the urgent tone of his book) he is a gentle, humble man who has simply experienced the joy of spiritual freedom and new life in Jesus. His burden is to see other Muslims escape the "prison" of Islam and run into the arms of the living Savior who loves them.
Critics will point out that Farrokh spends a lot of time focusing on the contradictions and destructive characteristics of Islam. Yet this book is not the rant of an anti-Muslim pro-Western Christian. Jailbreak is born from Farrokh's deeply held compassion for Muslims who are bound to Islam by culture and tradition but inside are crying out for spiritual freedom and personal fulfillment.
Most attractive of all, Jailbreak is brimming with faith in the living God. The author reports that God is already moving among Muslims in unprecedented ways, and Christians can become part of this spiritual momentum simply by praying. After reading this book I feel a fresh excitement to learn more about Islam and to pray for the Islamic world with real expectancy. My faith has been boosted that the God of the Bible really can change the landscape of history in dramatic ways when His people pray.
Loving, Thought-Provoking and Prayer-Provoking This book was written by a Muslim convert to Christianity encouraging Christians to pray for Muslims. The author writes, "Pray for Arabs. Love Arabs. Arabs did not conquer through Islam. Arabs were conquered by Islam."
FJ Farrokh has many interesting statistics:
--37 of the 50 nations that are the worst persecutors of Christians are Muslim.
--While Muslims have been conditioned to believe they are the rightful rulers of the earth, many of the world's poorest nations are Muslim (Somalia, Niger, Yemen, Burkina Faso; etc.).
--Many Muslim nations also have very low literacy rates: Niger - 18%; Burkina Faso - 27%; Yemen - 50%; Saudi Arabia - 79%.
After looking at these and other facts the author asks, "If one stacked the cumulative immigration applications to non-Muslim countries by Muslims on one side of a scale, and then on the other side one stacked the cumulative immigrations applications to Muslim countries made by non-Muslims, would not the former outweigh the latter by 1,000 to 1?"
Jailbreak offers many helpful prayer points. We are reminded to pray in faith and be bold in prayer, "Mecca will be reached. God's Church will be established in Mecca." The author instructs the reader about the nature of our prayer, "we are not pitting our human ingenuity against that of others." We are encouraged to persevere in prayer.
Jailbreak is highly recommended if you want to grow in love and purposed prayer for Muslims.
A must read Information not available elsewhere on the topic. Written with depth, compassion and understanding, yet holds the interest of the reader. A must read for every Christian who prays for the world. Highly recommended.
"About the Book": From the Author Jailbreak! provides a "prayer mat" for Christian intercessors by weaving together unique historical, theological, and cultural threads of insight about Muslims and Islam. Author F.J. Farrokh gives a spiritual perspective on the following:
* Beyond the stereotypes, what are Muslims really like?
* Why is it so difficult for Muslims to come to Christ?
* How is the Spirit of Islam tied to the Spirit of Humanism?
* What issues are Muslims wrestling with at the heart level-that are opening them to the Gospel?
* How can your prayers help bring a great move of God to the Muslim world?
Jailbreak! encourages intensified prayer for the Muslim world in the months and years leading up to a significant historical milestone. The year 2010 will mark a 1400-year period since the inception of Islam in 610 A.D. Could that be the year the reign of the Spirit of Islam is destined to come to an end?
"Toward the end of the 20th century, the prevailing prayers of Christians around the world made a profound impact on bringing down the Berlin Wall...However, at the start of a new millennium, the world witnessed on television not the ugly face of communism, but that of Islam as two jets crashed into the World Trade Center. Suddenly Christians across America were asking, `What is Islam?' `Who are Muslims?' and `Why would they kill innocent people?' but more importantly, `How do we pray for them?' F. J. Farrokh addresses this challenging question through this book."
--From the Foreword by Dr. Tom White, Executive Director, The Voice of the Martyrs
