 ESV pew bible
Great pew bible. However the 8 pt font is hard to read and nowhere on the Amazon web site did it indicate font size.
 Excellent Book
Highly recommend this as a gift to share the love of Christ with another human being.
Excellent translation and excellent value for the money
The English Standard Version (ESV) is the best translation available today. It features the ideal blend of great accuracy in translation and readability. It is just as readable as the NIV but without the paraphrase in translation. It is just as accurate as the New American Standard Version but a lot more readable and less wooden in its English translation. The ESV translation is very similar to the New Revised Standard version except for the following: it is not gender inclusive; it does not translate the Messianic phrase "Son of Man" into "a human being" (cf. Dan. 7:13-14); it does not translate the term "propitiation" as "expiation" in verses such as 1 John 2: 2.
Next to the Holman Standard version (Gift & Award), I believe that this ESV Gift and Award Bible is the best value in an inexpensive Bible.
It offers a very brief introduction to each book of the Bible. In the back, it offers the following helps:
1) Weights & Measures table
2) God's Plan of Salvation
3) Topical guide to Scriptures (Where to find help when you are ... afraid, angry, anxious, bereaved, bitter, depressed, etc.)
4) Another topical guide to what the Bible says (acceptance, church, courage, death, demons, faith, financial difficulties, etc.)
5) One year Bible reading plan
6) About the ESV
7) 1 pg. map of the 12 tribes of Israel and 1 pg. map to the missionary journeys of Paul
The Bible also offers the words of Jesus Christ in red-letter format.
Even though I really like this Bible, I have to offer some criticisms:
1) The letter font is pretty small (about 8 font)
2) There is no concordance
However, the Bible is very attractive looking, with a sturdy black leatherflex cover (you can also get the Bible in burgundy/red leatherflex as well) and the paper is durable and of high quality.
For its value ($8) you can't go wrong with this Bible. It is the least expensive ESV available. I use it all the time. It is ideal for personal use, to use for fellowship and church (e.g. as an inexpensive pew Bible), and for giving it away to friends and interested people. Highly recommended!!
