Religious Scripture Workbook
This workbook is not the best I've read on personal Bible study and teaching. I believe the writer does not allow for grace under some topics. I fully believe the Word of God and know that there are a lot sayings in there that are to be taken literally, but, as Christian teachers, we have to keep several things in mind when teaching. Everyone did not grow up in church nor have they been taught correctly from the beginning of their lives. So, when we walk in and tell them "you can't do this and you can't do that", under the guise of teaching the Word of God, we lose them right away. We perceive that they just don't want to receive the Word of God, when in actuality, they are not receiving our method of teaching.

We have to take into consideration where people ARE and although they may not have been living God's ideal prior to NOW, God still LOVES them. Unfortunately, we tell people that their lives are "out of order" and leave them with the impression that they are going to hell because of their current situation (i.e. being remarried with a living ex-spouse, etc.) when the Word only gives one sin that without exception, will put us in hell, and that is blaspheming against the Holy Spirit.

Christian leaders/disciples are capable of doing so much damage, when God only calls us to teach the truth of His Word with grace and love. We have to rightly apply the Word of God to our lives and show the grace and love of God to our "neighbor". We have to let God JUDGE their lives. Our responsibility is to LIVE His Word before the world without compromise and before His people so that they will DESIRE to follow Him too. This is not to say that we compromise what He has spoken to us, but our dogmatic attitude - is it condemning or convicting? Conviction of the spirit is the goal; not condemnation.

Religious Thorough and thoughtful - highly recommended
An excellent study guide on the topics covered. This is however a WORK-book; if you like to be spoon fed your theology, this book may not be to your liking. To use it, you will need your bible, a notepad, and some time, but it's well worth the effort. In the end, I not only learned about the material explicitly covered, but I think I also improved my bible study habits.

On each of the topics covered, the book leads you through the pertinent sections of the bible (by references - you have to look them up yourself), comparing scripture with scripture. Mr. Zeolla shows great restraint in simply laying out the evidence and letting the bible speak for its self.

On several topics he also presents the arguments for some, umm, 'heterodox' positions, and does so fairly enough that we can see how someone could reach such (incorrect) conclusions, how we know they are wrong, and how we can avoid making such mistakes our selves. This is much more helpful than simply giving the orthodox position and pointing out that others are wrong.

I originally got this book to use an early chapter ("Scripture on Scripture") to prepare for a small group study on the bible, and was not disappointed. It was several months later that I got around to working through the rest of the book, and was impressed by the presentation. I especially appreciate the two-chapter study on the Trinity, a doctrine to which I must admit I had never previously paid enough attention.

Religious Scripture Study Review
Workbook is great for getting good understanding of different topics found in the Bible. Most of the basic doctrines covered in detail. The studies on the Trinity and baptism were extremely good. Book is well worth the money.
