 Very basic
It's useful for beginners and those who simply want to gain a general idea about the bible. A lot of color photos and paper quality is nice. But I must say it's mostly fluff and no substance.
 Good content and user-friendly for beginning Bible students
Here is a Bible reference book that is easy to get into and enjoyable to read. This work makes an excellent reference tool for beginning Bible students. It contains four types of study aids- Bible dictionary, concordance, handbook, and notes on customs and curiosities.
The textual notes do not provide scholarly commentary, nor do they solve exegetical difficulties. Rather, they provide a summation of every section of verses, giving the basic thrust of the passage. This will leave you wanting much more explanation, and off you will go to explore reference works that cover subjects in more depth and detail.
So why bother getting this book? I think that families with children would derive some benefit from this book. It sort of has the feel of one of those books from DK publishers - the kind of book that explodes with vibrant pictures but also includes a lot of basic information as well.
I think the strength of this book is the choice of excellent illustrations and pictures. Instead of using the same tired old stock photography and fine art, the vast majority of the two hundred illustrations are fresh pictures or rarely seen paintings. There were literally dozens of fine art paintings with biblical subject matter that I have never before seen. The text is laid out in a pleasing manner, and every page is in full color.
Truly this is a user-friendly reference work that will beckon even children to pick it up and enjoy. I only wish the publisher produced the book in hardback so that it could better sustain the frequent usage will probably receive by those who purchase it.
 Useful compendium for all Christians
Just like Winnie-the-Pooh wanted a useful pot for Christmas, the Christian will want this useful book. The Illustrated Everyday Bible Companion will meet even more needs than Pooh's useful pot - for individual study, teachers and mentors, family readings, Bible studies, and other group studies. This compendium joins a concise Bible dictionary, concordance of important Bible words, handbook of the entire Bible, explanations of Bible customs and curiosities, full color illustrations, maps, and an in-depth index. Deeply embedded in the Bible, using recent scholarship and discoveries as well as old tried and true data, this Bible Companion really is helpful.
The layout of this reference book makes it easy to use: dictionary and concordance with other helps, all with references to relevant Bible passages; next is a book by book, passage by passage tour through the Old Testament and the New Testament. Throughout are found helpful sidebars and illustration explanations with additional, pertinent, and engrossing information.
If your bookshelf doesn't contain such a gallimaufry of Bible information, or if you are interested in acquiring a very modern one, The Illustrated Everyday Bible Companion is for you. Great for Beginners!
I started reading the Bible about a year ago and i'm half-way through. This book allows me to understand each passage. (A short synopsis on each passage helps me) It has great pics/maps etc. Very easy reading and Very interesting. I highly recommend it. I truly have a better underdstanding of God's Word with the help of this book.
